Frequently asked questions

    Do you use AI?

Gist books are not and will never be written by AI. We write book content using more than 100 external sources per subject, and in the green section of every Gist book we list the main topics and resources.  Then we have a subject matter expert proof read the content to make sure that it’s an accurate and fair reflection.  Our use of AI for content is strictly limited to double checking sources after the books are drafted, and generating images or infographics that illustrate factual content.  We do our own voice recordings for the audio versions of each subject, unless we tell you otherwise.  We are completely transparent on our use of AI and will update this statement if any content is automated in future, beyond what is stated here.

How do Gist books benefit authors?

Nonfiction writing has been in steep decline in recent years and most authors cannot make a living from their writing.  So we are committed to helping authors as soon as possible, first by drawing attention to their books, then by supporting their work.

How do you maintain objectivity and a neutral tone?

Early readers told us they want to know that we have nothing to “sell” them.  So our objective is to deliver the most up-to-date information with the most interesting examples, and to encourage Gist book readers to read more widely on their chosen subjects, from high quality sources. We showcase authors who are transparent in their declarations of funding, and we ensure that there is a wide spectrum of opinion among authors but that facts are definitive or authoritative.

Are Gist books always fully up to date?

We include the best available information at the time of publication, and we intend to re-issue new versions of all subjects with new examples and updated facts, as they become available.  However, Gist books is not an academic publisher, therefore our content should be taken as a snapshot rather than perfect information.
